![]() There are still a few episodes left in the season, so it remains to be seen what kind of mischief Horace will get up to in the next few weeks. In the season premiere, Caroline even implied that it takes a lot to keep him entertained: “If my little Horace and I get bored, we may be forced to return to London.” What better way to stay not bored than by causing drama among the locals? ![]() You know Horace is dying to spill the tea, just for the sake of spicing up his life a little bit. He’s everywhere! If only Horace could talk so he could spread rumors all over Cornwall, or grow opposable thumbs and write an anonymous social column all about the goings-on in everyone’s favorite mining town. Enys “examines” Caroline while saying things like, “Open your mouth … wider, please.” He’s there when she matches wits with her uncle. Thanks to his status as Caroline’s right-hand dog, Horace the pug is privy to more gossip and drama than almost any other character on Poldark - he’s there almost every time Dr. We persuaded ourselves that we could work around it, which we did, and Gabriella was amazing at coping with our manic schedule and her growing bump.” This is obviously a much better method of pregnancy-hiding than giant coats or standing behind couches, and I can only hope that Horace will inspire other actresses who find themselves pregnant when their characters aren’t to employ the “pug as bump hider” method. “And then two days later we discovered she was pregnant. “We looked and looked and looked, and then discovered Gabriella and offered it to her,” said executive producer Damian Timmer. Though the dog is present in the Winston Graham novels on which the show is based, Horace appears so often in the show because he’s actually a prop to hide Gabriella’s real-life pregnancy. Horace is living the life! The only thing missing is a girl pug for Horace to stare at longingly while knowing deep inside that their love can never be. She also feeds him marzipan, includes him in her real estate decisions, and lets him sit on her lap while she eats. She even asks him for his opinion on important topics, like whether or not her uncle is right about Dr. In another scene, Caroline feeds Horace from the dinner table, which was probably a super-unladylike thing to do in ye olden times, so you know she cares more about this pug than any human. Enys usually treats humans and that Horace looks as healthy as any Instagram-famous pug - nothing but the best for Horace. Enys to examine Horace, who’s been feeling a bit peaked. In Horace’s very first episode, Caroline enlists Dr. Though Gabriella Wilde plays Caroline with exactly the right amount of humor and above-it-all disdain, Horace the pug steals every single scene he’s in, which is most scenes that involve Caroline. Caroline is semi-engaged to Unwin Trevaunance, a pompous idiot who either doesn’t know or doesn’t care that Caroline’s just not that into him. Horace belongs to the aforementioned Caroline, an aristocrat who comes to Cornwall to visit her uncle Ray Penvenen. But none of these humans have anything on Poldark’s most important new character: Horace the pug. In addition to upping the drama quotient and going hard on the George Warleggan fuckery, season two of Poldark has introduced several new characters, including rich blonde lady Caroline Penvenen and shady Warleggan associate Tankard. And of course there’s the Cornish countryside, which is so unbelievably beautiful that it’s hard to believe it’s not the stuff of computer-generated, Hobbit-style fantasy. There’s Demelza Poldark, Ross’s former maid and current super-sassy wife who takes shit from no one, plus Elizabeth Poldark, Ross’s first love who happens to be married to Ross’s cousin, thus causing everybody to come in frequent contact and share significant looks across large rooms. There’s Ross Poldark, the strapping young soldier just trying to make a living as a copper miner, played by the very handsome (and occasionally shirtless) Aidan Turner. ![]() As has been previously detailed on this site and elsewhere, Poldark, currently airing its second season on PBS, has a lot going for it.
